[Serusers] SER home proxy with Asterisk voicemail

Hi guys,
I'm give up with SEMS as media server for voicemail
cause it can't successly run although I've followed
how to install SEMS at
http://ftp.iptel.org/pub/sems/doc/current/Configure-Sems-Ser-HOWTO.html
and there is no answer for the problem
So I decide to try Asterisk as the voicemail server.
But I never use Asterisk before. I really need help in
configuring Asterisk. 
What should I have (the softwares) before compiling
and configuring Asterisk as voicemail server.
